LION KILLED ONE AND INJURED THREE by Issa Hussein The lion which they say do not attack animals but instead hunts for human flesh is believed to have been feeding on the flesh of those killed in the neighbouring war torn country. The lion on Tuesday night snaked through a heard of goats camel and cattle before charging on ahearder who was sleeping next to his somali hut and dragged him to nearby thicket. Two of his brothers who were sleeping at a neighbouring hut had his desperate scream for help and they confronted the big cat already raked its canines into the chest and the throat of the man that died an hour after he was rescued. According to the elder brother Abdi Issack who spoke to the nation they said they used burning firewood to hit with beast that let its prey but thundered and kept on licking the pool of blood they dragged from their brother. They were joined by a good number of neighbours who kept vigil until it went off, however just away from 20 km where this incident occurred the same lion attacked three hearding camel tuesday afternoon . The three were sitted as they watch their camel browse,they heard a scaring thunder sound and as they stood up to witness they could not believe to see the big cat approaching them similar to what one of them said was like an arrow aimed at them. They were all set with their Somali daggers in hand but the man-eater never wasted chance to pin one of them down to the ground as two others put bravely fight to knife the lion in a bid to scare it away and free their colleque whose right hand was devoured but they managed to fight him off and disappeared . Two of them battered and bruised in the attacked but one identified as Ahmed Abdi Dubat (32) sustained heavy injuries with his five fingers on the right hand missing. Dubat was brought to the Garissa provincial hospital along with the two others by the area councillor Mohamud Ahmed and medics say they are out of danger.. The resident fear that the lion might be nursing the wounds and may make a come back to action anytime despite more romours that other footprints of three more lions Cases of human wildlife conflict have for the last two weeks as drought continue to grip the region where two children two weeks ago succumbed to death due thirst. Osman Ahmed Yarrow is one of the victims at the Garissa provincial hospital after he was attacked by a marrounding heard of elephants suspected to be from Meru game park that crossed the River Tana to browse on farms in Garissa District that are along the river. Another victim is Sofia Adan who meet the wrath of thirsty hyena that confronted her in a bid to chase her away not to draw water from a drying up well in Bulto Banta and she sustained serious hand injury before she was rescued by herders who heard her desperate call for help. And in Bulla golol of Fafi district local elders led by area councillor Hussein Mohamed decried over a platoon of monkeys that were terrorizing both livestock and human . They said more 18 heads of shoats were attacked by the hungry baboons that made children also remain indoors. The civic leader said plea to the kenya wildlife service warden on the issue remain fruitless. More than 18 civic leaders led by Garissa county council vice chairman Bishar Gure made a passionate appeal to the government saying that conditions of drought was getting worser . The vice chairman said only one water bowser was serving Lagdera, Fafi and Garissa district as the locals continue to suffer due shortage of water and food. They called for the immediate removal of the KWS warden whom they accused of laxity and lack of concern as wildlife continued to wreck havoc. |
